AODA – Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act

In 2005 the Ontario government took a significant step towards building a more accessible province when it passed the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA) calling for the development of mandatory province-wide standards for accessibility.

The first of those standards, the Accessibility Standards for Customer Service, came into effect on January 1, 2008 and applies to every business that operates in Ontario, provides goods or services to the public and has at least one employee – that’s approximately 360,000 organizations across the province.

How does AODA affect YOU?

Look around your facility or business and ask the question.
Does the signage in and around my facility or business communicate with a person with a disability in a manner that takes into account his or her disability?

Precision Laboratories can convert your nameplate signage to AODA compliant signage. You are required to identify permanent rooms, lockers, directional signs, information signs, regulatory and safety signs, washrooms, stairs, entrances, exits, elevators and be accompanied with a pictogram consistent with AODA standards.
